‘Coolie Bandiet’ is the memoirs of Zunaid Mosam, who gives an anecdotal account of his time as a political activist in the struggle against apartheid. He reminisces about the impact the apartheid system had on the black communities in his small platteland dorpie, Modimolle (formerly Nylstroom), his detention without trial and time spent in solitary confinement and the harrowing and torturous experiences of some comrades during interrogation. One particular incident he recalls was when Comrade Mike Moatshe, popularly known as Spoonky, returned from interrogation one day. The excerpt from the Chapter Spoonky’s Interrogation describes his ordeal.
